New songs posted to bandcamp

Thanks to Hideaway Studios in Woodland Park for hosting us the last weekend in October. We'd like to share a few gems from that session: "Talk of the Town", an updated version of a first-album standby, "Old Ghost Ballad" is one we play live but never recorded, and "Black Coffee", a brand new song. Enjoy listening to all 3 at: http://thebrokenspoke.bandcamp.com/

***Update: Recording winter EP at Wavelab Studio in December***

It's official, this winter we get to spend a week at Wavelab in Tuscon, AZ, recording at one of the premier all-analog studios in the country. Some of our favorite bands have recorded there: Neko Case, Calexico, DeVotchKa, and The Thrift Store Cowboys to name a few. We couldn't be more excited!

We're currently working hard on a healthy new batch of material. It's a time for writing, reinvention, and getting pumped up to make something new. Keep an eye out for updates and demos over the next few months.

Broken Spoke, Broken Spoke

Tom Skora's quavering voice and evocative lyrics — along with co-founder Josh DeSmidt's understated approach to guitar, banjo, lap steel and harmonium — gives this 2½-year-old band a kind of high, lonesome Americana sound that deserves national recognition. "Downtrodden, brokenhearted / Never seen a play that I didn't feel a part of," sings the former cadet who made the unlikely transition from Air Force man to alt-country troubadour.
